Whistle-stop tour of Costa Rica. After the 1.5 hr flight, which we spent in Business Class (the advantage of online check-in) we touched down in San Jose, the capital, and spent an afternoon dodging the crowds in the city centre. The atmosphere was pretty crap...rude, ignorant people, expensive food and drink, Bon Marche-esque shops on every corner and bland museums...we only stayed in the city for 10 hours before heading north to Rio Pacuare to do a day of white water rafting.
30kms of rapids...James and I at the helm leading the pace for the other 4 passengers...OAPs from Belgium who couldn´t speak a word of English or Spanish, so we had a few hairy rapid rides! I´m still feeling the pain of a self-inflicted nose injury...personally I think it´s broken as it´s a bit wonky but James claims that´s the way it´s always looked!
From our day on the river, we headed to the coast and stayed in Puerto Viejo. A Caribbean style town, with beautiful beaches and lots of gringos. Great place to hang out for a few days, cycle the coast, eat seafood and drink from fresh coconuts - bliss.
