The trip to the Virunga Mountains, a volcano range, was traveling over a high mountain through village after village with a stream of people always walking along the side of the roads. All walking with a determined look and gait to get somewhere. Some of the women have massive cargos balanced on their head while some of the men were pushing bicycles with massive cargos balanced about the two wheels. Because of the constant presence of people and never ending manually worked fields of crops, we began to understand that Rwanda is the most dense country of Africa. It has 6 million people in the size of Rhode Island. Every where you looked there were small planted fields next side by side, up mountain sides with the crops being mainly attended by the women. We exited the paved highway and headed up the mountain on a dirt road. Passing more villages and fields of crop until we reached the top of the mountain to get to the Virunga Lodge, created to look like a old plantation house with wrap around porch and 10 cottages perched around the peak of the mountain. We had 360 degree view of the valleys and lakes plus able to see Uganda and the Congo. We had conversation and drinks around the fireplace in the center of the lodge and of all things met another couple from Asheville (lives in Fletcher). Dinner was served at a communal table where couples from Wales, Montana and two from Australia. More pictures to be posted later.

Liz Enjoying the blog! What are the odds of bumping into another couple from Asheville?
