Late at night on Wednesday 11th March we arrived in Buenos Aires by ferry from Colonia.
On Thurdsay 12th March Grant and I went for a walk around BA, it is such a big city and very European. We saw the government building and the famous balcony from the Evita film. Then I went down the main shopping street called Florida. I found Tiffany, but didnt buy anything, although did have a well deserved stop in Starbucks!
Today was the last official day with the group and we had a tango night. We went to a tango restaurant where you get an hours tango lesson and a three course meal while you watch the real tango dancers put on a show. Was a great last night before everyone started going home!
On Friday we visited the Recoleta cemetary which is famous and extremely unusual. This is also where Eva Peron is buried. Six of us from the group went and had lunch afterward and then we had a wonder round the local market that was next to it. That evening Grant and I moved to our hostel which was no where near the centre of town, although still in a busy area (soho). We met some of the group again for dinner. This is where we discovered the "famous" Siga La Vaca. This restaurant had been recommended by a guy in the groups friend and we all decided to go. We walked for an hour and finally found the restaurant. It was at the port along the water front, a really nice area which is still under development. Anyway, it turned out to be a buffet with salad, steak and anything else you may want. Also when i ordered a glass of wine the girl kept saying no, so one of the girls in the group that spoke Spanish started talking to her and it turned out you had to have the whole bottle of wine, fabulous (specially since it was included in the price of the buffet). We didnt leave the restaurant until 3am that morning!
On the Saturday we had a lazy day. We then went back to the hotel we had been staying in to meet everyone else and to see Zemas (our tour leaders) new group. Then we all went for dinner again, back to Siga La Vaca (Follow the Cow!), just too good not too!
On Sunday Grant and I visited the Botanic Gardens in BA. They are right in the centre of town and somewhat run down so it was a little disappointing. We then visited the Evita Museum and had a wonder around the Japanese Gardens, which were gorgeous. We had a night in the hotel tonight after the last few weeks of going out every night almost. However, slightly disappointed when we got a pizza for dinner and no one in the hostel had told us that the oven didnt work!
Monday was our last full day in BA and we decided to visit the areas of San Telmo and La Boca. San Telmo was lovely with lots of small boutiques and I would have spent a fortune had I been able too, lol. In La Boca we had a quick look at the football stadium and then went into the main square where there are lots of tango shows and bars, so we sat and had a drink there. Again we just had a relaxing night at the hostel.
