Our final day in Dubai started with a bit of a lay in. A morning of just chilling out over a long and delicious breakfast and lounging input apartment. The afternoon then kicked off with a taxi to the old part of town in Diera to visit the Gold Souk followed by the Spice Souk. Loads of gold and jewellery and watches, probably worth Millions of £'s in shop after shop in a covered pedestrian area. Needed sunglasses after staring at so much bling....then had our Basel senses overloaded with all the spices. Both markets were typified by the constant encouragement from store keepers and street touts to view and buy, though they were polite and only doing their jobs.
A short stroll over to the Creekside to look at the traditional wooden trading boats, still used today then a trip across the creek in an Abra which is a small open ferry boat for 1AED = 20p Amazing value in a place like Dubai....
Now on the Bur Dubai side of the creek we took a wander through another market called the Old Souk which was a mixture of textiles, spices and souvenir goods before a taxi ride back to the Dubai Mall.
A quick late lunch at the food court, a bit of shopping and a nail repair for Jan. took time to view the Aquarium through the massive glass panel which is a feature of the Mall. This is a huge tank with all sorts of fish including Rays, Sharks and Divers. I had another viewing of the Fountain show before it was time to return to the hotel and eat. Next door to our hotel is the "Irish Village" a Small shop and Pub complex. Sitting outside drinking Guinness, Kilkenny's and listening to live music was a great way to end the day before going over to the hotel to shower, steam room and change then the usual taxi off to the Airport for our 3am flight onwards to Perth.
Dubai was a quality stop which we only scratched the surface of but well worth the time spent there. Bye Bye Dubai, Hello Perth, Western Australia........
