My Camino Journey
Up and out early today at 6am walking with Sonia and Phil, while we were waiting for Ralph in the town square we met Nancy, she is from Oregon in USA and was worried about finding her way of of the town in the dark, she was really friendly and asked if she could walk with us so she didn't get lost, of course that was no problem and when Ralph turned up we were off all with headlamps on... Oh and of course there was a quick coffee stop before we left town..... Today is another really flat walking day, on gravel paths all the 26.8km. Once we left the town it would be 17km before there was any Cafes or bars for food and drink, we had made sure we had plenty of water and snacks to sustain us until then. Our Walking pace was good and I felt like we were all keeping each other motivated and certainly having great conversations. The boys were a little slower than us girls today and we ended up in front by about 500mtrs in front talking about all sorts of things, American politics (Trump mainly) the health systems, and how we both now realise how luck we are in Australia, considering America is meant to be this big power house country but in so many ways is totally backwards in its way of thinking. Before we knew it we saw a cafe on the horizon which meant we had done the 17km, and could have a Cafe Con Leche and a croissant finally...... Only another 9.8km and we were going to be done for the day.... 5km down the road was another little town, which we were sure had added arrows for all the pilgrims to follow around the whole town, you normally just go straight through the middle of town, but in this one the path seemed to weave its way around every street corner, shop, bar and cafe..... It was really starting to warm up, but with only just a bit of 3km to go it was time to knuckle down and just get it done, my legs always get sore by this stage and any down hill, even just the slightest is a real struggle, of which there were a few to end the day. It was nice to see in the distance our Albergue, which had a huge grassed area at the front of it inviting you in to the bar and common area. We were once of the first people to arrive and ended up getting a room for just 4 people which had its own bathroom.... Totally luxurious. We showered and gave a pile of washing to the people running the Albergue and for 10€ they would wash and dry it... We certainly felt very special to have all fresh clothes again. Because we were not in the main town we spent the rest of the afternoon out on the front lawn, drinking and talking. We also met a lot of new people, including Michelle from Denmark and Fast Nancy and Toni from upstate New York all of whom are really lovely. After spending e whole afternoon chatting together we all had the pilgrims dinner at 7pm, and then started to get easy for bed around 9.30. We would be up early again tomorrow, this was become a really good routine and I am enjoy the fact that we get to the days destination early so we can relax and enjoy the weather and each other's company. Today I am grateful for My expanding Camino family, this is really turning into a fantastic journey of laughter and friendship.
