Today was a relaxation day, another sunny day to explore the local area so we went into cairns for a nice walk around and I popped in for a quick trim at the hairdressers. After a nice lay down in the sun by the lagoon we headed back to edge hill to do the Red arrow and botanic gardens walking trail. The botanic gardens were full of weird and wonderful plants and spiders!! We then did the hour red arrow hike up a hill through rainforests to see the view of Cairns and it wasn't until after we finished did we see the sign warning us of Cassowary and that it was a breeding ground for them. A little more heads up would have been nice. This track is also the locals exercise route which all the runners use to jog on. Mum and I were like the "fabi's" of the group, you know, the group of girls that just chatted in PE at school. We were so drained we had to take pitstops for jelly babies and water and regaining our breath after laughing like the naughty school kids that we are, as people exert themselves running up the many steep steps. We were shattered by the time we got up to the top so we say down deciding whether to feed passers by with jelly babies and water like the marathon volunteers but we decided not to, although we did have a few pleading looks from people at the jelly babies. We sauntered back home had a lovely dinner and good sleep ready for our Great Barrier Reef trip in the morning.
