Touching down in Maasai Mara Louis Armstrong's "what a wonderful world" playing in my ears as we graze over wild Zebra, Wildebeest, Impala and many other animals. One of life's perfect moments. Richard takes me on a long game drive and a brief stop for lunch and a tour at a business venture of his before we continue on our game drive before arriving at Serian lodge. I'm shown to my tent which is stunning, right on the River Mara. I have a beautiful rustic twin room with a separate bathroom with bath and shower. I can't believe where I'm standing right now, I'm a very lucky girl! The day has been surreal seeing lions, elephants, buffalo and giraffe on my first day. After a beautiful dinner I'm escorted back to my tent by the Askari (security guard) as the camp is completely open, so the animals quite often come into camp. At night you can hear the hippos taking to the banks and the lions roaring on the other side of the river at Ngara camp.
The next morning Richard takes me on a tour of the camp before we go for another game drive spotting 3 lions 2 young males just over a year old with a female. We then start our journey to the sister camp of the lodge we visited yesterday. On the way home I saw my first ostriches, it's amazing seeing these giant prehistoric birds waking across the open plains.
My third day I am working in the treehouse with Tania and Angus sanding down the wood by hand and oiling it after. We're finished in a couple of hours and head for a shower as I have now achieved the tan I wanted..the down side is it washes away. After a refreshing shower overlooking the river I head to lunch before a relaxing afternoon and game drive in the rain to find some lions. Bingo! We find a pride with 2 males and 4 females.
