Sa wa dee ka
Thats right people...we are in Thailand! But first we will just give the low down on our last few weeks in Oz!
After Brisbane we headed down the Gold Coast, Karen spent the night in Surfers Paradise where she had a great time whilst Jess went down to Coolangatta to catch up with some old friends for a barbie on the beach! We met up again in Byron Bay where we planned to hit the beach and the waves for a spot of surfing but yet again it rained, actually no it poured...for three days!!!Despite this we did venture out of the hostel, not only for the 24 hours pie shop but also to hike to the lighthouse at the most easterly point of Australia! It was worth it and we even saw some dolphins but we couldnt face the walk back to we hitched instead!
Next stop was Sydney but after an overnight bus we were not impressed with our cockroach infested hostel! Unfortunately we had already paid and it was cheap and wasnt really as bad as it sounds but we knew they were there! WE did the usual sights: The botanical gardens, the opera house, the harbour bridge, Bondi beach, Manly beach, Darling harbour and we also took a day trip out to the Blue Mountains National Park which was awesome, like a green grand canyon! That weekend Jess ventured down to Bowral for Gilly and Matty's wedding (congratulations dudes!) which was absolutely lovely! Karen stayed in the city and caught up with Christine from our Fraser Island group and went to see Kora who rocked! WE reunited again in Sydney before flying to Perth together!
In Perth we were greeted by yet another glamourous hostel!!! The grand central is not bright and lively as described in 'the book', more like soup kitchen/mental institution!!!And this time we are not exaggerating! WE stuck it out for 3 days only going there to sleep and eat when absolutely necessary! Instead we hired bikes and yes it rained for the entire 4 hours but it was fun all the same! We also went to Cottlesloe Beach for the day and watched the sunset over the ocean...very pretty! From Perth we went to Scarborough beach for 2 nights, attempted to Body board but the waves were really strong we could only just keep our bikinis on let alone get on the board! WE spent the weekend back in Perth at a different hostel, had a night out and went to the movies before spending our last day in Fremantle, which is much nicer that the city itself! Monday afternoon we flew out of Perth and our australian dream was over!!!
En route to Singapore to got in the mood for a new city with a couple of the infamous Singapore Slings (the local cocktail) before landing in a very hot and incredibly humid Singapore. We made our way to our hostel, a very clean and cool flat in Chinatown and spent 2 days in Singapore. We went to Litte India for lunch which was delicious, checked out Orchard Road and found all our fave shops although couldnt afford a thing! We found the Raffles hotel and spent the evening at the night markets in Chinatown where we sampled the local dish of hot and sour prawn soup...very tasty!
We landed in Bagkok last night and found a hostel just of the Khaosan Road with enough time to have a walk around the many stalls and find some dinner...Pad Thai, another amazing dish! Today we are flying to Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand where we plan to visit the night market above (see pic above), do a trek, take some cooking lessons and check out the temples! From there we will make our way towards Laos where we will take a boat down the Mekong River for 2 days!
Thats about as much as we have for you, hope you are all well, until nest time...
Lots of love Karen and Jess xxx
