I went to Wales, if only for a day...
Soph, Olivia and I caught a train from Bristol and were in Cardiff in about an hour. Mist entwined itself into everything, and by now, un-filtered sunlight seemed a very distant memory.
First, we traversed the shops, which were near empty of people. Perhaps everyone sleeps till midday in Cardiff? Then we made our way to Cardiff Castle, which, for my first castle experience was pretty lovely. Turrets and towers, a tunnel and moat, it had it all. The view from the top, out over the city was also quite lovely.
We wandered some more and saw the worlds largest lovespoon in a gallery devoted to them. Spoons for love, what a pretty idea. Maybe one day someone will give me a wooden spoon as a declaration of their love. Beats wedding rings any day.
Then we headed down to the bay, in search of Roald Dahl Plasse, which turned out to be nothing more than a sign pronouncing its ownership over a square of nothing. That was ok though, as a kindly Welshman pointed us in the direction of a little white church in which Dahl was christened. There we sat, looking over the water, eating cake and feeling quite content.
The Welsh signs were interesting; the language seems like someone has put the alphabet in a bag, jumbled it around and drawn letters out at random. It made me want to invent a language of my own.
It was a nice day, and I hope I get to see some other, more rural areas of Wales as well. It looks too pretty not to.
