Hey,
So I thought it was about time that I updated my blog on the happenings of Ko Phi Phi...
May 18th- First day in Phi Phi
Today we arrived in Ko Phi Phi after rather a hideous journey from Ko Tao. My Boat/ Bus/ Boat journey was not the most pleasant of experiences. We boarded the boat at 9pm. The boat was basically 2 decks, which I think were actually supposed to accommodate hobbits as the ceilings were 5 ft and the beds were even shorter! We were each assigned a spot on the deck long mattress, which was about 1/2 metre wide. Mine turned out to be right at the end. This had its pros and cons. The pro was that I could stare at the wall next to me instead of the weird thai man to my left. The con was that at the foot of my mattress was the ladder that led down to the toliet. The problem with this was twofold. 1) People sat on me when they wanted to go down the ladder to the toilet 2) around 2 hours into the 9 hour journey the smell started to travel up the ladder... and apparently I was not the only one feeling a little peaky! Eventually I managed to dose off, but we were awoken at 4 am to get off and wait in a small cafe (that can only be described as mosquito central) for 2 hours before getting on a rather cramped bus for 4 hours.... fun times. We then got on another boat, which wasnt too bad as we got free tea and coffee, and arrived in Phi Phi at 1 pm.
We managed to find a relatively low budget accomodation- fan, cold shower, 200 baht each (4 quid) and then headed to the beach for abit of TLC after our journey. Sabrina and I were a tad restless, so we rented kayaks for 2 hours with Charlie and went on a little expedition. I rather foolishly forgot my water, so dehydration kicked in quite quickly. Anyway, at least it knackered us out. In the evening we went to a thai place and then went home cos we were so sleepy!
May 19th- Day on the other beach
Today we decided to take a short walk and find a nicer beach. We ended up at this beautiful little strip of beach by the luxury hotels. It was stunning! We did not do much but lie and chat whilst sunbathing, but I did meet this reli charming little thai lady who let my put my water in her fridge and let me use the loo. I dont really get on with thai people, I find them a tad rude, but she was a sweetheart!
We went to an italian restuarant in the evening, and I had cheesy pasta, which hit the spot! Afterwards, for some inexplicable reason, I was literally so tired that I passed out on the bed. The other girls went out for drinks, but I was so sleepy I could barely keep my eyes open, so I got a good 14 hour sleep instead!
May 20th- Day trip around Phi Phi
We woke up early as we were going ona day trip today. However, it was POURING down with rain... which was a tad worrying as snorkelng would not be as good. We went to brekkie praying for it to lay off a little, and eventually it did, so our prayers were answered.
A small thai man guided us to the pier where we boarded a small wooden boat, with a driver who has two teeth, and an engine the size of a large dog. It was a bizarre set up. Our boat had about 12 people on it in total, most of whom were french, and very sweet.. one actually lived in Newtown in Sydney (where liam lives) so we had loads to talk about.
First we visited Monkey Bay, which was a sweet stretch of beach, but the large numbers of tourists crowding around the monkeys did take away a little from the atmosphere. We then went across the bay to Shark Point, where we snorkled in hope of finding a reef shark (I was not hoping too much.. in fact I was content with harmless fishes!) But alas, no one saw one! We then took a rather long boat ride to Bamboo Island, which was gorgeous and had beautiful waters that slowly faded from crystal clear to turquoise blue. Georgia and I went for a wander, and found a cute hermit crab and some beautiful shells. After an hour or so we got back on the boat to visit Maya Bay, which was where 'The Beach' was filmed. It was quite an adventure, as we had to swim across to somw ropes and then pull ourselves through a cave to get to the forested area where we could walk to the beach. It was reli pretty, but not quite what I imagined from reading the book... I loved the book.
At this point we were starving so I took command and made everyone get on the boat so we could go back... you know what it is like when you are starving hungry. In the evening we had an absolute monster of a meal. We went and watching 'Slumdog millionaire' at a little mexican place and I had Nachos, Fajitas, a bag of toffees, a Toblerone, 2 chump chump lollies and a coke. It was amazing. Then we just chilled out on the beach and slept like babies!
May 21st- Day of nothingness
Today it rained... and we were really not in good moods. Everyone was on edge... and none of us knew why. I just needed some space so I went shopping andplugged in my ipod and just took some 'me' time. Georgia and I had a chocolate moment, and after downing a glass off wine we each ate 100 grams of Lindt chocolate... we are bridget jones incarnate.
In the evening Georgia and I went for oil massages, which were lovely... and instead of relaxing me I actually came out feeling energised and positive! The thai lady was such a sweety,. and she kept laughing away at herself... it was so funny. Afterwards we went out, but could not find the others, so ended up watching jackass and drinking thia whiskey... I got a tad drunk... when we found the others they were equally tipsy, so we had a boogie on the beach. I had a great chat with kelly, and it was lovely to have a fresh face to catch up with. Got in at 4 am... eeek!
Anyway, today is our last day with sabs and Georgia, which is very sad! I dunno where we are going next... we need to sort it out... but they are off to phuket tomorrow.
Looking forward to chatting with everynoe at home tomorrow... miss you all lots!
