Today GSE took us to St. Paul's Cathedral. My first let down was that we weren't allowed to take pictures (though at one point our tour guide said she wouldn't notice if we took a picture or two while in the stair tower). Nevertheless, we had a really detailed tour and it was actually quite amazing.
It was just so big. Standing at the west entrance and looking east it was just breath-taking. There were all these archways and domes and columns. Everything was carved and beautiful. There were wood, marble and iron works. There were mosaics and paintings from different periods. There were a million memorials...even a memorial chapel dedicated to the Americans that fought with the English during WWII.
It's hard to describe because there was just so much. I think I'm going to try to go back for a service there later on in my stay and see what's it's like.
Afterward I walked around a little...didn't really know where I was going...didn't look at a map...I was just taking it all in. Anytime I saw something a little interesting I took a picture of it. Thanks for the camera Mom and Dad...I'm using it a lot.
Tomorrow I think I'm going to find a service somewhere and see what it's like. I just don't know how to dress. We'll see what happens.
