To get to Lauang Prabang it took 3 days, 2 nights. I decided to take the Slow Boat over which meant floating down the Mekong River and getting to see the views. At night, we stopped off at Pakbeng, the oddest, scariest village I had been to yet. The Guesthouse owner was a creep who decided he would order my food for me so I ended up eating fried Buffalo for dinner. I was glad to eventually get back on the boat in the morining and head to Luang Prabang.
The place is beautiful with french-colonial buildings and cute little bistro's along the river. The majority of my time was spent walking around the city and its amazing night markets. One day I headed to the waterfalls but as it had rained for the last couple of days, the place was flooded to the point that bridges had collapsed and picnic tables pushed over. The waterfall was still amazing though and we clambered through the 'No Entry' zones to get to the top of the waterfall which had stairs either side.
Laos has a time curfew of 11.30 where every bar, restaurant and shop closes. However, at this time, every traveller heads to the bowling alley until 3. It is so surreal as its just a bright white hall where everyone is drunk, and bowling. But nonetheless, it was hilarious.
The hostel I stayed at was very sociable and I found that alot of people I had met here I would meet again in Vang Vieng. A couple of Israelies that were to be real-life Borats and a brother and sister that were oddly close...
