After the bus ride to San Jose we checked into our hostel and booked a white water rafting trip!!!! We left the next day at 6 and got on a shuttle that took us to a river near the Caribbean coast called the Pacuare. We had a big buffet breakfast, a quick lesson on rafting, then started the adventure. It was absolutely beautiful! We were in the middle of no where surrounded but thick rainforest. The water was low because its starting to be the dry season but the rapids were still good and a lot of fun. Half way through we stopped on the side of the river where our guides prepared us lunch from bug barrels of food they brought on the rafts with us. Near the end it started to pour warm rain! It rained so hard I couldn't see Colton sitting right beside me! Then Colton threw me in the river so we all went for a swim in the rain.
After getting back to San Jose we checked into a different hostel and there was an old man from Sechelt there named bob! He had all this backpacks stollen when he first arrived in Costa Rica, including his passport and bottom dentures! :( he was traveling Costa Rica for 3 months with nothing but his cane and the clothes on his back! He told us he was going to do this trip last year but he fell and broke his hip!!!!! What a trooper this guy was!
The next day we wandered around San Jose which is a busy crazy unorganized city! There was some beautiful graffiti to see but we spent most of the day in the safety of the hostel (which had a pool). Bob told us that night that the bank machine stole his last debit card (bad luck or what!!!!) and he wouldn't be able to get any money for a week! After buying the guy a few beer Colton made him take 100 dollars to get him by the next few days. Bob was so sweet he didn't want to take it. 2 months down the road we checked our bank account and guess what, bob made it home to sechelt and put it back into our account! What a great guy!
We woke up early the next day and got on the bus/ferry to montezuma, in the Nicoya peninsula.
