Early in the morning we started the trip to Nicaragua. We took the 5am bus to the ferry off the nicoya peninsula and got on the trans nica bus, which took us right through the boarder to the city of Rivas, Nicaragua! Too easy! Me, Colton and Helena shared a taxi with 2 other Canadians and the 5 of us squished into 4 seats for the hot, 45min ride to San Juan Del Sur!
We walked to the far side, across the bridge to the Yajure Hostel! The owner Chelly was a great guy and offered us awesome hospitality. There was a great big kitchen, nice cheap rooms, a swimming pool and a ton of backpackers to hangout with. An all around great spot!!!!
During the day we made some trips to the beach up the road called Playa Maderas. Great surfing and good tacos! We even got caught in a mini rain storm there, our first in a long time! San Juan is quite touristy, with a huge amount of travellers, so we usually grouped up with people and went out for the night. There are a lot of great places, like the bar iguana where they have ladies night(girls drinks free!), an awesome little taco hut with dollar tacos all night long, the sports bar Dorado where we watched our first Canucks game of the season and live streamed KV's first show in Van, annndddd the unreal burger joint called Nacho Libre: best PEANUT BUTTER cheddar burger and onion rings around. Other then that we made use of the kitchen, because groceries were so cheap! Only $2.50 for enough chicken breast to feed me and Colt for 2 nights!
We decided to move on up the coast a tiny bit to playa maderas. We heard of a quite hostel down the beach that we wanted to check out and have some down time. So San Juan del sur was where we said goodbye to our friend Helena that had been traveling with us for about a month and a lot of other great friends we met in at the Yajure hostel. All people we will surely never forget!
