We caught what was probably our last Grayhound bus in America from Memphis to Nashville. After checking into our hotel we walked the 1.5mile path across a bridge into downtown Nashville and saw the beautiful city lit up with fairylights in the trees on the sidewalk. We were headed to Bridgestone stadium to see our first Ice-hockey game and were following directions given by the man at the front desk of the hotel. Fortunately we had to walk along Broadway St to get to the arena and it was packed with numerous honky tonks all with live country music and I almost wanted to go straight in and ditch the game but it was only our first night and we would have other opportunities to experience Broadway St. The ice-hockey arena was packed with dedicated fans who who take the game very seriously, they don't allow anyone to move around the arena unless there is a break in play and they even had security personel to patrol it. I thought basketball in America was big but this was massive, basketball to ice-hockey supporters are like union to league supporters, the basketball is very upperclass and sophisticated whereas ice-hockey fans want to make noise and get drunk. The game was tied at full time and went to a penalty shootout which Nashville lost but it was exciting, we loved it so much that Jesse booked more tickets for the next game. The next day was freezing and windy but we braved the walk into downtown to see the Country Music Museum and Hall of Fame, the most disappointing thing was that Garth Brooks hasn't made it into the hall of fame yet but hopefully he will soon. We then got some snacks and caught a cab home because it was dark and the walk is a tad scary, there was even country music playing in the grocery store. On Saturday we had planned to get to Broadway St early at around 6pm so eat before the crowds hit but we underestimated the popularity of the place and the streets were already packed making it nearly impossible to get a table at any honky tonk withough a long wait. After walking around for a while we found a honky tonk that was playing Keith Urban out the front so we thought that was a sign and decided to brave it, luckily as we were walking around some people left and we got their table right up the front beside the stage. The live country music was amazing and we had a lovely dinner while enjoying the music. Nashville is a very beautiful and friendly city that has more of a small town feeling, it was a great place to chill out before we go to work on a horse ranch in Otto near Buffalo New York state for a month, lets hope the work isn't too demanding.
