Hi! I'm in freezing Zermatt. Its a mountain resort/village near the Italian border, right at the foot of the matterhorn. I got the train yesterday for 5 hours just to come here so I can get the cable car up the mountain! I'm going to try and keep this short as this computer sucks and last night I wrote a massive entry and then it didn't work, grrrrrr annoying. So on our last day in Geneva, Sal and I went for a massive brunch at a lovely cafe on the right bank where we "ate for Australia" (Sal's term not mine) as we got the buffet brunch. Just to give you and idea, I had scrambled eggs and a bagel, a bowl of fruit and yoghurt, vegetable soup and a roll, a crepe and some creme caramel, all washed down with juice, coffee and tea! The first part of the train journey was lovely as it was along lake Geneva and the view out the window was amazing. The lake is nestled in the mountains, I didn't expect it to be so mountainous right up to the lake. The countryside is lovely, with terraced vineyards on the hillside and cute towns and cities dotted along the way. But then it got dark about 5 and I lost the view... I had to change at Visp to get the train here and when I got on the platform thought I was going to die from hypothermia! Typical of me, I was wearing ballet flats with no socks, so my feet were freezing (I was wearing a hat, scarf, gloves, coat and thermal top though!) Luckily, I had the explorer socks you sent me within easy reach in my suitcase so I could put those on - thanks parents! Anyway, I was doubting whether it was really worth coming all this way for a night, but then when I got here, it was definitely worth it. Still aboslutely feeezing, but the view of the mountain from the town is incredible. Luckily there was full moon so I could still see quite a lot as I walked around in the dark. Had a bit of trouble finding my hostel but of course, a random Australian from Sydney who lives near Lake Geneva sensed I was having trouble dragging my suitcase over the cobbled stones and offered to help me find the hostel and then carried my suitcase up the hill for me, nice! I got dinner and breakfast with the price of the hostel but I missed out on dinner so I went down to the town and got a takeaway pizza.. and I ate the whole thing - I blame the weather. Today I think I'm going to get the cable car to see the view of the mountain and then leave mid afternoon to go back to the lake area, but on the other side of Geneva, Photos when I get back to London - didn't bring my USB cable, cross fingers this entry works! xx
