TK: The train pulled into hue at about 8am and we transferred to our hotel, we then headed out for big day of sightseeing. First we went to the citadel and saw the royal palaces of the Nguyen dynasty. Then we headed to the Tu Duc tomb which was in fact a royal fun park, filled with pavilions, ponds, forests and places for the emperors to get up to mischief. Finally we saw the Thien Mu pagoda, where we had a chat with a young monk. He has taken a vow of abstinence, and isn't allowed to eat onions or garlic as apparently he might have wet dreams! We had dinner at the house of a lovely family who put on an amazing feast for us to celebrate Christmas Eve. Jess and I turned up with Santa hats and the family were intrigued, tried them on and their 8 year old son loved using them as hand puppets, so we left them as gifts! The gran of the house introduced us to chewing beetle nut which made us light headed and gave us red tongues. She was addicted to it, and she had black teeth as apparently it was a symbol of beauty when she was young, whatever you think, it didn't really matter as she didn't really have any left anyway! We then got taken to a nightclub which was playing banging western tunes and full of trendy 17 year old locals who loved having their photos taken with us, we ushered in Christmas Day on the dance floor just like it was New Year's Eve, all in all a very un typical Christmas Eve
