I've reached India!
After my little rant on here the other day the heavens opened and it poured it down! It was such a relief as the heat has now dropped to late 30s which means we can go off site seeing again!
Walking down from the hotel in the morning we got absolutely drenched there was rivers running in the streets and my trousers were wet up to my thighs! We must have looked a picture with my big bag on my back, my rucksack on my front and small bag dangling down! lol
We crossed the boarder yesterday with no real problems and arrived in Amritsar at about 4pm last night. We are staying at a wicked little place called Mrs Bhandari's Guest House which is a massive old colonial house with big gardens and a small swimming pool. We love that the British left behind proper freestanding baths and scrambled eggs (well I do!) There is even a small park so I've been swinging on the swings this morning! Stu and I noticed that Domino's deliver and as neither of us had eaten much (and I didn't have any Western food really in Islamabad or Lahore) we ordered a medium deep pan pepperoni (oh to be in a country that eats pork again!) It was dead tasty and I was full on two slices! I am going to be bad and make use of the service again for lunch later and see if they do a Hawian!
Today I have visited the Golden Temple which was dead impressive! There was literally thousand of pilgrims and a handful of tourists! At the corners of the temple and the entrance you are offered by volunteers drinks of orange squash and a local drink lassi which with the heat I gratefully accepted, I also think that I would of offended had I have so said no. Moving round to the entrance on the golden temple (everything is set around the main golden temple in the middle of a large pool which many of the pilgrims bathe in) Stu and I sat for a while because Des went into the main temple to have some food blessed anyway all of a sudden Stu and I are the most interesting folk there and attracted a small crowd it started off just a few kids asking us where we where from etc and then adults were interested too and wanted to speak with us. Possibly the cutest thing was this little toddler who ran from about 10ft away and just stood in front of Stu grinning away. He was gorgeous! His mum ran after him and we shook his little hands and he waved us goodbye after Stu took a photo which they were all chuffed with! Next up was a relatively young man who wanted photos with me and Stu in front of the temple. Then two little girls who wanted to shake our hands, we were very British and told them all it was nice to meet them and to take care! It was wicked!
Tonight we are heading back to the boarder as there is a big ceremony everyday when the boarder closes which should be interesting.
Oh and there are the cutest puppies at the guesthouse! They must only be a few weeks old but I'm smitten. Especially with the runt a tiny little white pup. So cute!
A few of us are looking into a train ride across a bit of Indian which should be fun. We need to work out where to go from as some trains only run 2 or 3 times a week.
So that's me for now I'm happy again!
Lots of love from Nicole xxxx
