Bali Bali Bali
Oo I like it here!
After cleaning the truck I made my way to Singapore the next day. We walked to the boarder (was literally at the end of the road!) And then caught a bus for less than a pound that took you through immigration on the other side and into the city. Dropping us off round the corner from our Hostel. Bloody fab service if you ask me!
We only had one night in Singapore so Sos and I dressed up and headed to Raffles for a traditional Singapore Sling. I must say I was a little disappointed. The hotel was gorgeous (complete with a Tiffany's and Molten Brown shops on site) but I found the Long Bar a bit of a let down. Still the drink was fab and I tossed my peanut shells on the floor as per tradition.
Our flight to Bali wasn't until the early evening so the next day I had a bit of a wonder and came across Dorothy Perkins! Woohoo! Clean new tops for me!
We caught the tube to the airport which was so easy the public transport in Singapore is excellent and so cheap. It's a very clean city with little pollution. Now getting on a plane was damn right weird. I got all excited at the airport treating myself to a Dior Lipgloss, 1/3cheaper than at home! And virtually skipped onto the plane like a child! It was a fairly short flight and suddenly we were in Bali in the biggest visa queue and immigration I've seen! It was chaos no one really new where to go or what to do. Ho hum.
Out the other side our bags were already there and we grabbed a taxi to Kuta Bungalows which is where we are staying. It's a lovely little complex with the nicest staff who are too accommodating for our own good! They will do anything for us with a big smile. We asked them if they could clean our room this morning whilst we're on the Internet so we can go home and get some sleep. "Of course girls, have you been partying?" Big smile.Love them!
I've really taken the opportunity to chill out and have a holiday (I know that sounds mad) but I've virtually lived by the pool with my book and it's been fab!
We met up with Rachel and Colleen on Tuesday and enjoyed two nights out on the trot dancing till3am. It was grand to catch up with Rach and the jelly babies were delicious while I was catching up on the latest gossip from home reading Heat Magazine! How to make me happy.
I've been quite reflective this last week, far too much time to think! lol. I would never have thought this time last year that I would be drinking cosmopolitans in Bali with Rahel having spent the last 6months on a big orange truck travelling through 23 countries with 30 strangers. Crazy. What a year! It could not have been any better.
Ire ally like the Balinese people. I got my hair cut the other day and the girl was saying how quiet it has been since the bombs in 2002 and then 2005. It's such a shame that people give in to terrorism. I feel very safe here there is security on every door checking bags etc. If you are in the wrong place at the wrong time you can't help it. But don't go places because there is a possible threat.
Oh and I'm so intrigued by the OZ Bus that is trying to do what we have in12weeks. Crazy stuff, I don't think they can do it. And if they do I doubt that they will get to see 1/2 as much as us.
So I'm hereon Bali for another 5days before heading back to Singapore for a couple of nights and then on to Darwin. The shipping of the truck has been delayed by a week so I'm be sampling the delights of Darwin for a whole week. Any ideas of what I can get up to?
Anyways........
I'm off to sit by the pool. I am so dark at the mo but I can still work on my tan a little more!
Lots of tropical island love
