Wednesday 24th
In the morning we set off towards STA travel to book our scuba diving at the barrier reef, because it was STILL raining we decided it would be better to delay the scuba for a few days. The guy in STA was really helpful and gave us a map and basically the itinerary for a list of tours to do for free. We decided to use the rainy day to plan South America, however wifi in Port Douglas is rubbish so we instead got going on the STA recommended waterfalls tour. We headed for a town called Babinda, entering the town felt like going back in time to a western film (not that I've seen many). The town had one main road up the centre and really old looking newsagents. We're really learning quite hoe diverse oz is. We found a really nice free campsite nearby and pitched up for the night.

Finally it has stopped raining, just in time for our day of waterfall hunting! First stop an area called Babinda boulders, it's a fresh water river that collects into a refreshing (blimin cold) pool with massive boulders, perfect for sunbathing on. There are signs saying please stay in 'safe swimming' areas as people have died in the strong currents, this was enough of a warning for us so we only swam in one pool. Once we had been there for 10 minutes or so a massive tour group arrived, all 18-25's ish in a large red bus, we decided to leave them to it and move on. The next stop was a waterfall called 'Josephine falls', a truly beautiful spot. We pretty much had the place to ourselves, bar a couple of local kids, which was lovely. The water had eroded the rock into a slide so we spent ages climbing up the rock face to enjoy the 3 seconds of sliding fun. We were sunbathing and enjoying the wonderful natural sounds of water and birds...when the big red bus arrived. This time the group brought massive inflatables with them. We headed off and ate lunch overlooking a large gorge, from here we made our way to the next 3 waterfalls, I wasn't lying when I said we spent the entire day waterfall hunting! The next fall we came too was tucked right into the jungle, it had the clearest water ever in the pool at the bottom. It was too shallow to swim so we didn't stay too long. The second waterfall on this route was massive, we got an impressive view from above, Jay was braver than I and got some great photos right over the top. The third and final waterfall in this trio is called Milla Milla falls and was the setting for one of the Pantene adverts was filmed, the one with the girl flicking her hair back under the waterfall. It was again very impressive and we swam out to underneath the falling water, it is so much more powerful than the majestic peaceful look it has. We were there for about 10 minutes when the big red bus arrived (seeing as we nicked the route from a tour we weren't all that surprised that tour groups where following us). We spent the evening at another free campsite making the most of our last few days with Kylie and the open road.
