Helloooo everyone!
Right, so I have been very busy teaching at school...and playing all kinds of sport with the kids after school! I haven't yet mentioned that the playing field is pretty much on a mountainside, so we do get lovely views when we go up there!
Last Friday, I travelled to Galle again, and spent the evening relaxing on the beach with a beer. Tee hee hee.
On Saturday, I travelled to Matara to meet up with Alex. He took me to a Buddhist temple on a little island in the sea. Before we went in the temple, we had to remove our shoes, and visit one of many Buddha statues. Apparently this temple was badly hit when the 2004 tsunami occurred, but it has since been rebuilt by those hard-working Sri Lankans! There were glorious views of the beach and sea, which we enjoyed for a while.
That afternoon, we decided to have a cup of tea and a cake before taking a bus to polhena, where Alex took me to a totally deserted, palm-tree'd beach. We had fun relaxing and swimming there for a bit before taking a 2 min walk to another beach, where the waves were really choppy! We then visited a third beach which was a lot calmer, and we saw the sun set. I took some pretty awesome photos! In Sri Lanka, the sun doesn't just set, it plummets! You can literally see it going down! Alex then took me to bake'n'take, where I had a hamburger and chips for a change! Yum!
I stayed in a hotel that night - it was pretty grimy, but I had a huge queen size bed AS WELL as a single bed, all to myself!
On Sunday, Alex and I took a trip to Dikwella, where we spent some time relaxing on the beach and chatting with some deaf locals. I then had to catch a bus back to bandarawela with Samuel. We travelled to wellaweya, to find the buses to bandarawela had stopped! So we had to take a (very long!) tuk-tuk journey!
So, overall it's been a great week! And I've got a great tan (jealous, anyone?!) and I've got some more great plans coming up, watch this space!
Love, love xxxxxxxxx
