So, we left Thailand and got several buses and boats until we arrived at Langkawi Island. We were hoping for some nice weather so we could have a relaxing few days on the beach before heading to Penang to meet Christie. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly for us, we'd chosen the wrong time to go and it rained the whole time we were there. It was a shame because we think we'd have enjoyed it there. We had our first taste of Malaysian food, a mixture of Chinese and Indian, which was nice and the locals seem friendly. After a couple of days we got back on the boat and headed south to Penang.Christie arrived the same day as us, good to have her on board again. We stayed in a hostel in Georgetown that wasn't the most comfortable, but it was cheap. Christie likes to splash out on her accommodation so think she had a bit of a shock when we showed her the room that cost us 1.60 each per night!! We spent the day time wandering around China town and 'Little India', soaking up some local culture. We thought we'd 'pop into' the Muslim temple to have a quick look round just before lunch...that was until we met Mohammed. An hour and a half later, we knew all there was to know about the Muslim religion, oh and just incase we'd forget something he told us, he gave us 3 books to take away! It was really interesting but we were very hungry, Christie didn't quite understand the looks me and Jen gave her as she asked yet another 'good question, great question, beautiful question, I like that question, I love that question"...Mohammed was very passionate!!We went out on the night which was fun, until we had to pay 20 pounds for a jug of cocktails, bit of a shock when we're used to paying 2.60 for a bottle of Vodka! Hoped to meet some other travellers but all we met was 2 lads from Bognor Regis!! The next day we got the 14 hour overnight bus to Perhentian Islands. Again, Christie prefers to pay the extra when it comes to transport whereas we're used to hopping on local buses. Thankfully when the bus arrived it was a massive coach with the biggest seats you've ever seen...and only 5 passengers, including us 3! Managed to sleep pretty well and woke up at Kuala Besut, ready to get the high speed boat over to the Perhentian Island. We got there as the sun was rising; it was beautiful. The boat journey was only 45 mins and I spent most of it laughing at Jen who was very nervously laughing as we got thrown about as we violently bounced off every single wave. When the guy told us to move further down the boat, it turned out he wasn't being awkward...he was trying to be helpful! As we arrived at the smaller of the two Perhentian Islands we realised we'd found paradise...
