Jen's Journeys
Yesterday's nap was a LIFESAVER. I only slept about 45 minutes, but it enabled us to get through the evening. Most of the kids and Jeanne slept about an hour and a half. So, once we were all back up, we headed down to the Puerta del Sol, the "center" of Spain. When Franco was the dictator here, he designed all the highways to run through Madrid - so the freeway system looks like a big bike tire. And " kilometer zero" is right in the Puerta del Sol. Oh, and there is a lot of shopping, so we gave the kids some free time with the task of finding their way to the Plaza Mayor by 8:30. They had to ask for directions from locals, and they all made it! In the meantime, though, Jeanne and I headed to the plaza nearly fright away, found ourselves a table and got some Fanta Limon. Delicious. And we met our new Ecuadorean friend Luis, who in the interest of drumming up business, has offered us a special discount if we bring the group back for dinner tonight. It's a cool location, so we just might. He then proceeded to sing to us. Only in Spain. :). Then once the kids showed up, we headed to dinner at the Restaurante Meson de la Cava, a REALLY old and awesome place. We had a traditional tapas type dinner (not real vegetarian friendly!) and got to enjoy the atmosphere. Then a little before 11, we stumbled home to pass out! Got a gorgeous night view of the royal palace and cathedral that we had visited earlier in the day Slept VERY well last night, as you would imagine. So now we are about to head out for a day of parks, art museums, and more walking! My free wifi at the hotel runs out this afternoon, so you may not hear more blogging for a couple of days. Hopefully it will be reinstated by Friday, because this girl is not paying 8 euros a day for Internet!

Mom WOW - beautiful picture!
Mom Is that one of Betty's "put your camera near the ground and shoot" pictures?
Jamie M I am the dum-dum who pays 8 euro a day. :)
Steph Holy Crap this looks cool.
Susan I'm taking bets on when you break down to pay for the WiFi. I did in Italy! This is bringing back such great memories from my trip to Spain when I was the student in high school. Thanks for taking me down memory lane with you!
Jen Charles It was awesome. I sadly have no idea how old it was, but I'm thinking way further back than anything in the US!
Jen Charles I did have my eye in the view finder, but I'm pretty sure I was squatted down. :) that trick I've been doing since high school. I distinctly remember Shannon o and her mom laughing at me in the Capitol in DC.
Jen Charles So you are both probably right, but since I know I have access on Friday afternoon, I figure I can make it 18 hours after this runs out. :)
Barb 'n Ron Hey..........we were there!
Jen Charles That's right! You guys when south mostly, right?
