Jen's Journeys
Hello, everyone! Last evening, we booked ourselves onto a tour of the Dingle Peninsula for today. Many, many, many tourists take a tour of the "Ring of Kerry" when they are in this part of the country. But, we had gotten a tip back home that the Ring of Dingle is better and less crowded. We checked in with the tourism office, and the WONDERFUL girl there agreed that it is much better but told us NOT to drive it. And I'm very glad she did! It was gorgeous, and about half of it, I thought, "I could have driven this." And then we hit the outer part of the peninsula. Oh. My. God. Nope, don't need to drive on a one lane, yet two way, road. On which you may need to pass a full sized coach bus. No, thank you! So, we boarded the bus in Killarney this morning around 10:15, to be driven out to the far western tip of Ireland. Before we even took off, we saw a guy on the bus in a Packers hat. He seemed very confused at our first conversational attempts. But, a couple of minutes later he realized what we were saying, and came up to talk to us. Turns out he is from Quebec, and therefore English isn't his first language. But, once he realized we had been referring to his hat, he tells us that all of his friends prefer the Patriots, but this is his team because "they do not cheat". Who knew we'd get such a resounding stamp of approval on the packers from a French Canadian while in Ireland?! So, we finally take off. We stopped at many viewpoints along the way, and saw some beautiful countryside, ocean views, and vistas including the Blasket Islands. Now, we also saw some other islands in the distance to the south, off the ring of Kerry peninsula. Apparently right now, JJ Abrams and crew are on it filming part of the new Star Wars movie. It's a very craggy island with an ancient monastery on top. So, keep your eyes open, Star Wars fans!! But all in all, the tour was very nice and well worth the money. When we returned to Killarney a bit after 5, we hit a couple of souvenir shops and had a couple of pints on the route back to the B&B. We also stopped again for some bread and cheese on the way home. Calling it a night much earlier today than yesterday. Sorry for the short and boring blog today, but really the scenery was the star of the show today.
