Ok so I will start with the story of my fall out with the woman from oz experience.. who originally a couple of days before new year was very helpful and reserved me a space on the bus leaving Sydney on the 3rd of jan because she said it was getting very full and by the time I bought my ticket it would be full. So I go back to the hostel and buy my bus pass online saving £500 (!!) but then when I went to see her to confirm my space on the bus.. she tells me its full and I must yhave misunderstood as its impossible to reserve a space on the bus before you have bought the pass... it was the same woman who had reserved it!! And I told her so.. she didn't like this and said no the bus was completely full and my name wasn't there so no there hadn'tbeen a reservation. This went on for a little while til I found my reference number she had given me.. then she managed to find a space on the bus but gave me a full lecture on how unfair it was that I was getting on this bus and there was all these other people on a wait list blah blah blah.. I was just happy I was on the bus. So on 3rd Jan at stupid o'clock me and Emma were on our way to Spot X surf camp, but somehow we ended up on different buses.. and Emmas had loads of space on it.. so basically that evil wench at oz experience didn't have a clue what she was talking about!
But anyway there wasn't really much to see on the way to Spot X but it was a nice enough day and our driver Guido, had organised a kind of picnic bbq lunch and we stopped at a beach for a while to eat and it was actually pretty good, he bought loads of stuff and who knew bbq'd garlic bread would be so good. Then we stopped not too far from Spot X at a hospital.. a koala hospital, its toally run by public funding and volunteers and looks after koalas that get caught in bushfires or get attacked by dogs, stuff like that. But a lot of them were injured or recovering etc so no koala holding yet! What was strange though was that Emmas bus didn't do any of that they just stopped for food etc, which did mean that we were a bit late arriving at surf camp, and because we were late there wasn't enough dorms.. which meant half of our bus had to sleep in tents.. sorry they prefer to call them teepees but ours was actually a tent! It wasn't too bad in the end seeing as it had mattresses and duvees and stuff but ours had no light so it was completely dark once the sun went down! But luckily we had a few torches between us and managed to get by with those. The good thing about surf camp is that its a bit out of the way so once the clouds cleared the stars were amazing! Also we went down to the beach after dark and kicked around the water so that this algae phosphorescence or something like that glows in the dark if it gets disturbed. There wasn't that much of it though but the same thing happened on the night dive I did and its really cool to look at!
So we had our surf lesson in the morning and even though I've tried before it was so difficult to stand up and stay there! The waves weren't great though and there was just too many people from our group and only 4 instructors so it was more kind of a surf board hire than lessons. It was good fun though, but the photos were really expensive so not many people bought them, I'll probably try again further up the coast and get someone else to take a picture for free! And so we headed on up to Byron Bay and the start of the rain!
