Hello Everyone,
We have a little more time to update you about our travels although by no means enough as the last few days have been non-stop.
Currently we are in Suzhou about 2 hours outside Shanghai although it took us 16 hours by train to get here from Xi'an.
Since our previous blog we have finally seen the Terracotta Warriors one of the main reasons that I (Rob) wanted to do this trip. We certainly were not prepared for the sheer scale of the tomb that was discovered. The current dig sites cover 200,000 square meters but are only 1 25th of the total estimated space of the tomb. Even after visiting the site it is almost impossible to imagine anything of this magnitude being built over 2000 years ago. Michelle and Suzy please tell Nan I have plenty of information for her and I definately want to visit the exhibition when it comes to London.
For lunch we visited a school for people with learning disabilities. They performed a number of song and dance routines before getting us up to do the birdy song!!!!! It was a very moving experience and Jen nearly cried. It is wonderful to know that there are people who care for the needy even in a country where there is no real concept of philanthropy.
Today we have only had a small amount of time due to the train and the worst taxi's in the world who not only do their best not to pick you up if they do they will try to persuade you that you don't really want to go to your choosen destination! I will never complain about London cabs again (or at least not as much)。
