Hi everyone! I'm sorry that it has taken me a month before I was able to get anything up on my blog. I have been sitting at this computer in my school lab for over half an hour just to be able to load the internet site up and begin typing. Oh dial-up internet... I'm not going to go into great length about my trip so far in this entry. I am just writing to let everyone know that I am alive and well, and have been at my school placement for 2 weeks now. I really love my school (Shaanika Nashilongo SS) and my placement (Okahao, Namibia). My learners and colleagues are great, and I am starting to feel more and more at home and integrated every day that passes. School so far has been amazing..frustrating..overwhelming..confusing..exhausting (up at 5:30 every morning!)..and so rewarding. I'm working hard, and I think that this is going to be a very promising year. I'm already working on after-school lessons and programs for our grade 12 learners with the English department (what my HOD-Head of Department- calls "massive teach") so that we will improve our pass-rate. Last year of over 220 grade 12 learners we had 8 pass the national exam (and therefore the course). That statistic is common throughout the country. In fact, our school is among the best in the region in most of its academics! My housing situation is good...I've turned into quite the domestic diva actually and have done a lot of scrubbing, cleaning, and sweeping! I hope to be able to post pictures soon!
I hope that this is enough to satiate your curiousities for now. I promise that over the next couple of weeks I will have more posts and more juicy details available to you all.
I miss you, and love you, and wish you could experience this with me!
xoxoxox,
Jen
