2 weeks until my departure, so I should probably fill everyone in on a little bit about my year ahead...
Upon my arrival in Namibia (January 1) I stay with my volunteer group to complete orientation and teacher training in Windhoek (capital of Namibia) and surrounding areas. After a few weeks we all then depart to our assigned schools to start our year of teaching!
I'm stationed at Shaanika Noshilongo Secondary School in a small town called Okahao in the Omusati region of Namibia. I'm going to be teaching grade 8 and 9 English and grade 8 math (yipes!). I will be living in a house on school grounds (common in Namibia) by myself, except for my friendly Wall Spiders to keep me company (they eat mosquitos..). Okahao has a post office, bakery, hospital, market and not much else. However, there is a larger town nearby where I can get most of my shopping and necessities from. This is, so far, the extent of my knowledge in regards to my station and my year ahead. I'm looking forward to keeping you all posted!
PS- I'm well aware that Canada is not actually in Namibia...but the settings on this thing could not grasp the fact that I'm actually not there yet.
Cheers.
