Jen's Travel Diary
We reached 'Harvey Bay' today (Wednesday) after a 5h coach ride from 'Noosa'. We are in 'Harvey Bay' to do our 4x4 roving adventure on 'Fraser Island'!!
We are staying at the "Fraser Roving" hostel tonight - it is really nice and clean and spacious (and free!) and then head out tomorrow for 3 days and 2 nights! Neeley is staying somewhere else as she has signed up for a different 'Fraser Island' package.
At 6pm today we had a meeting about our 'Fraser Island' trip. We learnt how to drive the 4x4 vehicle, beach driving rules and discussed a general itinarary. It was quite scarey as they showed us videos of how lots of people had crashed there 4x4 near "washouts" - where creeks run onto the beach and cause the sand to part and leave a drop. Driving on a beach is not as easy as you may think! Then for a group bonding session we all went out for a drink.
The group: Me , Annie, Andy, Jamie, Berty (UK), Casey, Nicki (Canada) and Delphine and Julien (France).
Back in 'Harvey Bay' after the trip.
Sunday - Today I counted up the number of bites that I had received from mosquitos on the island (eventhough I was wearing a lot of spray), reaching 60 before I got bored. I also seem to have done something to my left ankle as it is now twice the size that it should be - who knows what happened?! Annie, Neeley and I then spent the day pottering around 'Harvey Bay' - a quiet town with a few restaurants and shops. We also had a delicious lunch at the "Black Dog Cafe" ($6!!). We then went back to Annie and my hostel and layed around the swimming pool and had a few games of pool before Annie and I took the Greyhound bus to 'Airlie Beach' at 8.25pm.
