Jen's Travel Diary
Today (Monday) we reached 'Airlie Beach' at 9am after a 13h Greyhound bus trip from 'Harvey Bay'!! I am so tired as I dont tend to sleep on buses!! 'Airlie Beach' is where we meet up with Neeley tomorrow and then all start our sailing trip to the 'Whitsundays' on Wednesday.
Annie and I checked into our cheap hostel - "Magnums" that comes with our 'Whitsundays' trip. It is only $10 a night, it is a little small but has its own bar and is just opposite the lagoon and beach so not all is bad. Today we have just been lying around the man-made lagoon, as it has been recommended to keep out of the sea due to "stingers". In the evening we met up with a couple of our dorm-mates (Anna - UK and Laura - Swiss) and went out for some drinks at "Magnum Bar" - it was a really busy night as the local night club were having a foam party!
Tuesday - Up early this morning for a visit to the doctors, my ankle is still swollen. Had to fork out $78 for consultation and prescription!!! It is an infection in the ligaments under my ankle bone - how that happened I have no idea!!?? Have to spend the next few days with my ankle up and resting - that is going to be great on the boat tomorrow!! Spent today sitting in the sun near the lagoon again. 'Airlie Beach' has one main street on which everthing is located. It is quite a quiet place during the day, with most of the time spent at the lagoon. But in the evening it comes alive with all the backpacker bars open and ready for business.
Wednesday Morning - Checked out of "Magnums" and put the bags in storage and spent the morning just chilling out before heading to the marina at lunchtime.
Friday Afternoon - Well we are now back in 'Airlie Beach'. We have re-checked into "Magnums" for the night. In the evening we had a boat party, where the whole group met up and had lots of drinks at many different bars ("Magnums", "Beaches" and "Paddy Schinanigans"). It was a really good night!!!
Saturday - Today we catch the Greyhound bus to 'Townsville' at 10.30am.
