Jen's Travel Diary
We got to the Tioman Island via a very frightening speedboat trip - it took three hours and the water was well choppy!!!!
But it was all worth it once we arrived, it was a tropical paradise! It is still really rural and quiet. There are palm trees and huge patches of jungle still! Most travel is by boat, but we were at the main resort (still very small) so just walked everwhere!
On the boat we met a French couple so we all went together to find accommodation in 'Salang', at the "Indah Hotel Complex". We managed to get a basic hut (ie. no sink) but it was right on the beach. We spent the afternoon wandering on the island, you cant go far there are only two roads! In the evening we met up for dinner at one of the beach cafes and then went on to the only island bar, but it had cocktails!!
The next couple of days we just spent on the beach. Annie did some great snorkelling, seeing all kinds of fish on the reef - which was 5mins swim from the beach. We met a group of Austrian lads the next day (Marias, Robert and Tomaz), they were really nice and we all got on really well!! So we spent the next couple of evenings with them. The late evenings were spent at the bar!!!! The bar owner, AJ, took a shine to me so we did did get free wine and cocktails!!
We left "Tioman" early on Friday to get the ferry (calm and nice) to the mainland and then take a bus to Singapore.
