Now in Victoria and Portland is a massive port with a shipping and rail network but just a stopover for us. Once again the scenery today has consisted of miles and miles of pastoral land (farming to us). In the middle of nowhere was a small town and a huge Kimberley Clark factory surrounded by mounds of woodchips - strange we thought, where do they get the wood? All was revealed when a bit further down the road the pine tree forests started and went on and on and on till it got quite boring.
Thankfully the Great Ocean Road was soon upon us and things got more interesting. A rugged awesome coastline with swirling seas below. The power of the water is frightening. Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge (broken) and the Twelve Apostles (only 11 remaining) were the sights to see. One of the Apostle rocks was clearly the shape of a not too happy face (you will see in photos). Ray reckons he had the hump cos the water hadn't been turned into wine as promised!!
Although only about 150 miles from start to finish, this road took us 2 days with stops. Once again town names were familiar like Peterborough and Torquay. The road was constructed by First World War soldiers who returned to Australia with no jobs, as if they hadn't suffered enough. There is a road marker as a memorial to them though.
Onwards towards Melbourne and only 9 days left in our motorhome.
8400 miles to date.
