Taupo - Wellington
Friday 1st January
The magic bus picked us up at 8.40 to take us to Wellington. We stopped along the road just outside of Taupo to take amazing pictures of Mount Doom and the surrounding area which was stunning. When we arrived in Wellington we drove up Mount Victoria for views over the Harbour and the capital city. We checked into the Cambridge Hotel and squished into our room for 5 with double buck bed, one single bed and a mattress on the floor. We do have a TV, fridge and sink which is useful. There is a dominos next door to the hotel and we all had pizza for dinner! We then sat in our hotel room watching TV for the rest off the evening.
Saturday 2nd January
The next day we got up and went to Te Papa Museum which is free entry. The museum was very interesting and included a preserved giant squid and blue whale skeleton. After the museum we had subway for lunch. In the afternoon Ali, Gaz and I wandered around town trying to change my flip flops (we couldn't), we also stopped off at MacDonald's for hot fudge sundaes. My new trainers we hurting me so I had to walk around barefoot for part of the afternoon, a common sight in New Zealand. We met up with Jen and Lyndsey in JB hi fi and walked back to the hostel via New World supermarket and had pasta and bacon with a sauce for dinner.
Sunday 3rd January
On our second day in Wellington the heavens opened, we watched films for a while and when the rain eased Gareth and I ventured out to find a wi-fi café, which we didn't. We then booked our shuttle tickets to the ferry and bought jacket potato, beans and ham for dinner. As you can tell it was a very productive day with lots happening.
