Franz Joseph - Wanaka

Saturday 9th January

Made sure all were up early as we had been told that Carl would leave you behind if you were not there in time for the bus. We were up so early we had time for yummy sausage sandwiches. The bus picked us up at 7.30 and we set off for Queenstown via Wanaka. Along the way we stopped at Lake Matheson to get some reflection pictures. The water had a few ripples, but the views were great. Our next stop was for lunch and we made ourselves sandwiches instead of buying food. We arrived in Wanaka just after 2pm. Gareth and I said faretheewell to Ali, Jen S and Lynds and got dropped off outside Matterhorn South Hostel. We dumped our bags and went and booked our cinema tickets for Avatar, you get to sit in a lazy boy, a sofa or a car! We then wandered around the small town tbefore heading home to check internet stuff. At around 5.30pm we went to Uncle Mikes Smoking BBQ restaurant for dinner. We both treated ourselves to steak! It was then a short walk to the cinema. It got very crowded in the foyer because everyone wanted to be near the front to get the best seats. The doors opened and we all piled though, I saw the car, headed towards it, opened the door and jumped in. Yippee we got the sit in the car! The film Avatar was excellent and afterwards we wandered home to our hostel and went to bed as it was past our bed time.
