So we arrived on Koh Phangan, the island of the full moon parties and immediately headed for the party town of Had Rin.... but only to get boat to quieter beach up the coast away from the American high school kids and English people searching for a nags head to get pie in.
Our beach was very quiet and had appealed to us as it was bsically a one restaurant beach. the place was called "the Sanctuary" and did health foods, detaoxs sessions yoga etc. Jennifers specialist subject bsically, (she can tell you more) alas some of the people there were horrendously horrendous, just very i dunno extreme. Guys with muscles refusing to wear a shirt regrdless of weather or appropriateness, friendship bracelets tied round their biceps and standing on the shore doing back flips. Now, i don't like to see anyone choke on a celery and steamed vegetable shake but there were one or two there who tweaked my annoyance nerve. Mostly they were very rich as well. we overheard people talking about Ron Howard (Richie Cunningham in Happy Days mum...)staying there (although we didn't see him).
Jennifer hated some people there s well so she will edit this no doubt. ( There were also some lovely people there ,2 ladies we met who we helped with a crossword etc... but yes I agree it was all rather w***y and pretentious clientele wise - the staff and the running of the thing was great, if I could have stuck all my own friends there instead! And I got lots of lovely ideas on what you can do to steamed veg to make it taste nice! this doesn't include making it into shakes though..)
Anyway the food was good and the beach was fun s it had 3-4 foot wves like a wave machine for riding and jumping around in when it wasn't raining (you'll notice rain follows us to beaches) . we stayed in little place behind the sanctuary whihc was half the price and very nice.
after 3 days there we were done wiht people meditating next to us on the beach with incence so moved over to another beach nearer the exit of the island, it had pool and beautiful views so we stayed a couple more nights swimming amongst the rainfall before heading out again to Krabi.....
