This morning we awoke feeling pretty rough after our last night in Australia ended in typically debauched fashion as we drowned our sorrows at having to bring our time here to an end.
On leaving the hostel we headed into the town centre to see which establishment would be lucky enough to welcome us in and ended up in an Irish pub along the main strip to enjoy a couple of pints of Little Creatures (a Western Australian icon) before heading on again. After some searching we came across a small strip of bars and headed into one of them to plan our next move. We had already decided that we were going to treat ourselves to a nice meal on our last night and after a couple more drinks we started our search for somewhere to eat, which we should have realised was going to be tricky as even the barman couldn't suggest anywhere that he thought would be good.
After half an hour of walking up and down the same streets we came to the sad realisation that it was going to be take away or nothing at all. After some debate we settled on kebabs and headed on in, only to find out that they had almost completely run out of chicken, so we ended up with one chicken kebab and one that was (as far as we could tell) full of nothing but scrambled egg!
Following our successful trip into the city centre we headed back to the hostel to find out what was going on and why everywhere seemed to be shut so early. We were soon informed that we had headed in the wrong direction as although we were indeed in the city centre, the best place to go was Northbridge. Armed with this new found optimism, but with very little idea where exactly we were going, we headed off over the railway and into the delights of this promising suburb.
A few streets later we suddenly stumbled upon dozens of bars, cafes and restaurants catering for every need (they even had chicken) and cursed our luck at our earlier attempt at dinner. We headed straight for one of the more lively pubs on the strip and soon found ourselves in a busy bar with a nice large beer garden and got ourselves settled in for the night.
After several hours we decided it was best to make our way back to the hostel while we could both still manage it unaided. By the time we had stumbled back to our room we were in the small hours of the morning and we fell onto the bed and woke up an hour or so ago in exactly the same positions! We dragged ourselves out of our room and headed up the street for some breakfast at Dome to try to clear our heads. We are now waiting for the bus to pick us up and take us to Perth airport to begin the depressing journey home.
