We met the girls at the airport just after four o'clock a couple of days ago, which was a strange experience in itself.
We had arranged a transfer to the hostel for them but realised that they had no idea where they were staying and who to look out for at the airport so we got ourselves downstairs at half three so that we could go with the driver to pick them up. When we got downstairs we spoke to a guy that we thought was the driver and he said that the driver was actually asleep in the front reception room and that he would wake him up when the time was right.
After a while of sitting downstairs trying to stay awake we were beginning to wonder when we would be leaving so we went back to talk to the guy that was acting as an alarm for the driver. When we told him what time the plane was due to land and that we wondered if we had missed an earlier pick up he told us that there was only one transfer and that they wait until they can hear the plane landing before they set off for the airport as it was only a ten minute journey! Sure enough, when we heard a plane coming down to land, the driver was woken up and we were on our way to pick the girls up.
Obviously when they arrived they were still on UK time and we only managed a couple of hours sleep between all the chatting and Haribo eating that was done. We took them to see the fire dancing around the corner that evening and have spent the last couple of days getting them acclimatised and on to Fiji time.
In just over an hour we are heading to the Mamanucas (mamam-a-thaz) for a week of sun, sea, sand and maybe even the odd shandy or two.
