we'll put our own piccies up soon we promise, gonna wait till we get to Nairobi in a few weeks where everything should take half the time to do-Oyugis is a bit rural!
Had a really busy week getting involved in the different projects out here- the people we are working with are lovely and really looking after us. We're walking to and from work each day which is roughly an 8 mile round trip- its really nice walking, although alittle hot sometimes, oh and wet, got drenched the other day-there in the short rain period out here so when it rains it rains! But it's much needed! Someone we know always stops to greet us on the way to or from work which is really nice. We had one of our Kenyan friends over for dinner the other night which was great and shes begged us to go and visit her and her family again next weekend and go to church with her-second time in a few weeks we've gone to church, goodness! The one we are going to next week is a seventh day adventist service, it's held on a saturday, it should be an experience. The last service we went to was a Pentecostal service-it felt like we were in Sister Act, it was brilliant, everyone singing and dancing along.
Been getting our hands dirty helping out with agriculture out here, picked chillis, visited ill patients at home and spent a day at a hospital (seeing how it's ran and patients are treated, thankfully not being patients ourselves.) Been to the market, it's crazy, people selling beans and fish everywhere. Ooh we tried our first ogali the otherday- Staple Kenyan food, its like a dumpling (mmm very tasty, Gordan Ramsey eat your heart out, well.....), its all that some people have to eat in a day so has to be filling! Oh and tried the hottest chilli ever! Only had a tiny bit and it blew me away, all the kenyans found it amuzing!
We're off on a mini adventure to Kakamaga, one of the last tropical forsets in Kenya, meant to be rich in all sorts of wildlife- birds etc. Getting a matatu there which is an adventure in itself! All good fun. Really enjoying it here but also really excited about safari in a few weeks.
Anyway time to fly. Lots of love and hope everybody is happy and well.
