Around the World Forever
Paid to Play Episode 16: The one where the author continues his search for the cast of Gilligan´s Island ... more specifically, for Maryann and Ginger. What he discovers is the film set for Survivor Spain.
As my search for the missing castaways of Gilligan´s Island continues, it brings me to the Pearl Keys; 18 little islands about 35 km from the Caribbean coast town of Pearl Lagoon. They seem to be mostly uninhabited and pristine. Picture perfect postcard kind of stuff. Then the helicopter roars overhead. It's the Nicaraguan military shuttling Spain´s latest Survivor contestants to an isla next door for what is, without a doubt, another challenge to determine who gets voted off the island. I didn't even bother photographing this. A little island with a military chopper parked on it was not the image I had imagined before coming here. Meanwhile, I walked my little island in it's entirety checking for any signs of life or evidence that this was once Gillgan's hangout. Mission failed. This was not the place.
Next, it's back to the mainland and another panga (fast boat) north to the Garifuna community of Orinoco and the lesson about the white lobster.
