Around the World Forever
I have been on the move since my last update from Copan. After a couple days in San Pedro Sula, Honduras' 2nd largest city, I traveled to the small village of Omoa, right on the Caribbean Sea. I haven't seen the Atlantic Ocean since I left Belize and the hot, humid temperatures remind me of being back there. There isn't too much to do in Omoa which is why some people come, but they did have a pretty cool old Spanish fort to check out.
After a one night stay here, I had enough and headed to La Ceiba ... the 3rd largest city in Honduras and launching point to the famous Bay Islands of Utila and Roatan. Utila is the cheapest place in the world to obtain the PADI open water certification for SCUBA Diving and that's the reason I'm here. At my hotel in La Ceiba, I met Oren, a guy from Israel also interested in diving. So we are now roommates in a hotel on the island and looking for a school. The weirdest thing about Israelis is that they can spot each other from a mile away even though they have never met before ... I'm not sure how they do this but I've witnessed it first hand more than once.
Oren spotted 2 girls that look like they could be from anywhere USA ... "They're from Israel", he said and after couple words in Hebrew, he was absolutely right. We became a group of 5 after they introduced us to a guy from England they were traveling with. Today, the five of us hired a boat to take us to an uninhabited island for the day to just work on our tan, snorkel at the nearby reefs, and just do nothing. It was pretty cool and good to be in the water again checking out the "aquarium fish". Tomorrow, we may decide on a diving school ... or not. Time means nothing here except when your underwater. Other than for diving, there seems to be little reason to own a watch ... or shoes, or even a shirt for that matter. I think I'll just hang out for a while.
Forgot my USB cable so no pix til later. Sorry 'bout that.
