Around the World Forever
The 80's rock band SCORPIONS are retiring... again. Seriously, these guys are pretty old now but they still sound as good as on their Cds which is pretty impressive for a bunch of 63 year olds. But what better place to catch a show than in their own backyard in Germany. So on my way home from Thailand I made a 5 day pit stop in Frankfurt. I have to admit, their fan base is a little geriatric these days but the show rocked. It was 1987 all over again (minus the mullet hair cut).
Unfortunately, getting here was a pain in the ass and my luggage was lost in India. I was using Air India out of Bangkok and I had to route through New Delhi. While that was happening, the Air India pilots decided to go on strike because they haven't been paid for months. So dozens of flights were cancelled and hundreds of passengers like me were stranded. The airline put us up at what was probably a 5-Star hotel in the late 1800s but it's getting really run down now. At midnight, they pulled a select few of us bound for Frankfurt out of our hotel rooms to rush us to the airport. I don't know what the rush was as we waited around for hours while they blatantly lied and told us our luggage would be on the same flight as us. In the end, I got my backpack five days later and only 20 minutes before checking in for my flight to New York via Reykjavik. You suck Air India... oh, but their food is amazing, go for the chicken tikka masala. Anyway, let's go to Iceland...even if it's just to change planes. I have a window seat so I can't wait to see whatever I can from the air.
