Our last day in Toronto, and much stuff-to-do, but also lots of time to kill, as we were checking out of the hotel at 2pm, but weren't due to board the train until 8pm. Our hotel had been great, and the receptionist who worked the morning shift had taken a shine to us, and brought us some gorgeous pastries from her favourite patisserie, and gave us a hug when we left ( it seemed churlish to point out I was British, and therefore 'hug-averse'! ), we'd had a really nice stay there.
First stop, CN Tower; very high, bit like St Johns Beacon, without the radio station at the top! Very good, though, and not too crowded, as we'd timed it well, and saw all the coaches arriving as we left!
On to the St Lawrence Market, for food and mooching. Lunch was a huge chicken parmigiana roll, bigger than a toddlers head, while sat in the food court, and trying not to make eye-contact with the nutters.
Still with time to kill, we hopped on the City Tour street-car, it was dear, but really interesting, and we saw parts of the city that we'd not reached on foot. Toronto's quite nice, with some nice architecture, and superficially it seems quite affluent, but there also seems to be a lot of homeless people, and loads of begging going on, much more than in the UK, not what I would've expected.
The day went quicker than we expected, and by the time we'd had tea at a Vietnamese Restaurant, it was time to go to the station, and board The Canadian, for our epic trip across the continent to the pacific coast! We got lucky when checking in, and ended up with a bigger cabin for the first three nights, changing to a regular cabin for the last night. No bunk-beds for us!
We found our suite, settled in, and then headed into the 'observation car' for champers and canapes while leaving Toronto, with the CN Tower changing colour in the night-sky above our heads.

Sharon Crowley Wow it sounds fantastic, and glad your having a fab time, must get together when your back in the UK. x
paul cottier Nice to see your train jouney was not like the one in south east Asia. And i wonder if your Vietnamese meal was the same as your authentic one you both experienced, quality and price. Keep travelling and enjoying the trip i look forward to your tales from Seattle - "I'm listening."
Jeff Hi Paul, the rail trip was top! In Vancouver now, big NHL game on last night, the Canucks beat Chicago Hawks in overtime in the Stanley Cup, great atmosphere in town, like in MK when the Dons win, I expect!
