Just after we touched down in Canada, and the pilot announced it was windy, raining, and 4 degrees outside, I realised that perhaps we shouldn't have packed our jackets away in the cases. Everyone else on the 'plane was putting on big coats and scarfs, while we just stood there in flip-flops, shorts, and t-shirts, feeling inappropriately attired (not quite that inappropriate, but not far off!).
The jet-lag had us up early on our first full day, and we were out tramping the city streets way earlier than normal folk should've been on a Sunday morning. In fact, the only people wandering around were nut-cases, homeless folk, and other jet-lagged European tourists! Walking through the closed-up shopping mall, it felt like 'Dawn of the Dead', one of my favourite zombie movies, but without the gore and violence, obviously. They save that for the Ice-Hockey games here, apparently!
The hotel is very nice, a bit 'zen' and 'feng shui' obsessed, though. We've got a burbling water-feature in our room, and housekeeping deliver an incense stick and a healing crystal in the evening 'for your well-being'! My well-being would probably prefer a chocolate!
We spent a lovely day with my Canadian relatives out in Cambridge, Ontario. Uncle David and Auntie Ann kindly collected us from the hotel, and we met up with my cousins and their families. Lots of chatting, nice food, and terrific home-brewed wine. A top day!
