We saw most of the city yesterday on the open-top tour, the weather was fantastic, and we had a great day. It's good being on a tour bus, because it gets you away from the nutters, and there are bloody loads of them in the States! We were waiting for a bus connection in Union Square, which seems to be 'ground zero' for head-cases in San Francisco, desperately trying not to make eye-contact with them, but they home in on the tourists with unerring accuracy, and so it began. A deranged 'busker' started singing at us, whilst jabbing his finger in our faces at the end of every line, 'I've got sunshine, ( jab ), on a cloudy day, ( jab ), when it's cold outside ( jab ), I got the month of May ( jab ), spare a dollar for a homeless guy, sir'! We were glad when our bus turned up!
We weren't sure about SF at first, but we really like it now, not quite as much as Vancouver or Seattle, but the weather has been much better, and we're really enjoying the sunsheeinne!
We took the bus to the Haight & Ashbury area today, where the hippy counter-culture started, it's still an alternative area, with great shops and cafés, and a cool atmosphere. Tomorrow, we're going to hire bikes, and cycle across the Golden Gate Bridge. Really, we are! I know what you're thinking given Sal's 'mis-hap' in Vietnam, but there's huge barriers to stop her falling into the water here, it'll be fine!

Barrie Glad your enjoying the good weather, so are we, well upto 5pm BST thursday 5/5/11 when we got a trickle of rain, but its stopped now. Hope when you ride your bikes it will be accross the sidewalk or road and not up the towers and down the metal guide ropes. You two are likely to do that for the attention. If you put lamby on your bike remember to strap him on. Lovly photos, just looks like Liverpool, only bigger. I did the sum to prove i am real.
Jeff Hi Barrie, hi Linda! They wouldn't let us cycle up the cables, and given Sal's record when it comes to riding bikes, it's a good job! I believe the rain has started again, too! We're heading south now, so hopefully it'll start to get warmer!
Cara Hi Jeff, I think you had the same busker we had when we were in SF! Union Square is a bit nuts, and we were staying a really close to it, so accosted daily by lots of nuts! Didn't get to Haight & Ashbury but heard its pretty cool over there.
