21st - 23nd February dream team resort, Pimalai, Same Same, Klong Nin Beach
Thanks for all your comments everyone. Keep them coming x
Hi Mary Lou goodbye heart.... Sorry that just slipped out! Great to hear from you. Glad your enjoying the blog. We're having a great time even with the couple of hiccups which I think is understandable when you're moving about so much. So I don't think we've done too bad. I look forward to hearing all about your cruise when I get home. Bet you missed the toilet showers hey!! Not! Have you started looking at new G Adventure tours yet? We got a recipe book with the class so will definitely give it a try. Mind you some of the ingredients will need to be changed (I'm not sure if we can get dried crickets) No only joking!! But some things we won't be able to get so that'll give me a good excuse for it not being as good as it should be!!
Hi Linda and Ken. Lovely to hear from you. Thanks for your comments on the blog. It's really good to know it's being read. Yes losing the phone was a pain as mine is locked so I don't have a sim for it but we've managed fine using wifi in the hotels or bars. Gives us a good excuse to visit a bar!
Boo hoo!
Just copying 3 days blog over and pressed delete instead of copy and lost the lot!!!
Saturday 21st February Kantiang Beach - Pimalai
Dream Team Resort
They have a free taxi here going to Kantiang beach and Klong nin beach. Leaving at 10 and pick up at 3 each day but we thought we would stay here today and sit by the pool and take a stroll along the beach.
Our temporary room location is great only steps away from the pool, bar, restaurant and beaches. It's a bit dated especially the bathroom and shower and there was no hot water in the shower this morning so that was an early morning wake up call. But it couldn't be in a better spot.
We left the cases packed as we were moving room later, had breakfast and went exploring. The beach is rocky, much like Cornwall with little rock pools but it's only a few minutes walk either way to nice sandy bays. We walked to the left of the hotel first. Had a swim in the sea which was really lovely then had a lay on our new mat in a shady spot and read for a while. Then we walked past our hotel to the right where there are a couple of bars. We had a drink there and a swim too. Then it was time to head back to move to our new room. When we got back they said we could stay in the room another night and they would send someone to fix the shower. This would've been great as we'd only booked for 2 nights at £30 a night but this room was supposed to be £80 (laughable at that price but then again it does sleep 4 so maybe) but we really wanted to see the other room as we were thinking of staying another 2 nights. In the end they let us stay in this room for £40 a night for the extra 2 nights so that was great as so handy for the pool, the bar and the beach. So that sorted we went for a swim then got ready to visit the bar on the beach Mo Beach Bar.
There was a lovely sunset and we got there during happy hour so had a cocktail for 100bht each. It was so nice there, just relaxing, listening to the music and of course sipping a cocktail, we just had to have another even though happy hour had finished. We went to 'See Sun' for our evening meal which is just over the road from our hotel as another couple had said it was good. We didn't get there until 8ish and although there were a few in when we got there, within a few minutes they'd all gone. Well I gave myself a sniff to check it wasn't me, but I was ok. They just seem to finish early here. But we enjoyed our meal then headed back.
Sunday 22nd February Kantiang Beach - Pimalai
We got the free taxi to Kantiang beach which is where the Pimalai that Rita and Ian stayed in a few years ago is. We thought we'd take a look.
It was really hot and I'd forgotten to bring a tee shirt to swim in as I got a little bit burned yesterday. There wasn't much in the way of shops so just have to swim in my shirt. We asked at the information office, where the Pimalai was. She said it was just up the road, not far. So off we went. Now it probably wasn't far but in the searing heat, up hill, it certainly seemed it. Then we got there, blagged our way through security by saying we were staying there and it was about as far again down the path to the beach. What made matters worse was that when we did get on the beach and looked along it, it was only a few hundred yards from where we started off so we could have just walked along! So a visit to the bar was called for even though it wasn't even 12 o clock yet (well we do have our standards you know). I just had a soda water with lime (130 bht instead of our usual 40) and Sam a small Chang at 3 times our usual price. Ah how the other half live! Then I went up to the ladies which was near the pool. It's beautiful up there. The pool not the ladies, although that was nice too! I was taking a few photos to send to Rita when the bloke from the bar came and took the camera off me and took some pictures of me posing by the pool. Nice friendly chap!
The beach is lovely so we strolled down to the water. Thinking about it, can you stroll when the sand is like red hot coals? Ran hopping from foot to foot more like. The water was divine but then we noticed it had some little nippy things in that feel like pin picks all over. You can't touch or see them so I'm not sure what they are but we have experienced it on a couple of the other beaches. Then we walked down to 'same same but different' restaurant our Ian had suggested we visit. We had a spot of lunch and booked a table for 8 this evening.
Our free taxi picked us up and we were back before 3.30 in time for a dip in the pool. Later in the evening, I said to Sam, 'think I feel like sex on the beach tonight', he was nearly out of the door before I could finish my sentence, 'instead of a pina colada!'
We hit Mo Beach Bar then came back for our taxi which we booked from our hotel (200bht) to take us to same same restaurant. We had a nice meal there then walked along the beach in the dark to where we could see lights from bars. We had noticed earlier on that one bar advertised music and fire performers but we've heard that before and nothing had been on but we went anyway. Good enough they did have both. We loved the fire performers in Koh Tao so it was nice to see it again here. At the end they had flaming torches still on the beach and there were kids just playing with the flames! (being a fire bug it was hard to hold myself back) no one seemed bothered. There was one little boy, must only have been about 6 I'd say, he was twirling his baton, well probably just a long stick , good style and practicing throwing it up and catching it. It wasn't lit but don't think it'll be long before he's doing it. He was really good. After the performers everything closed down. It was only about 10 but we headed for home. Got a tuk tuk (200bht too ) and were back in 10 minutes.
Klong nin beach tomorrow
Monday 23rd February Klong Nin Beach
Got the free taxi to Klong Nin beach today. It's really nice there too.
Again there's no chairs on the beach but I did hear a chap in our hotel telling another guest (yes I do listen into other people's conversations) that the military had gone to one beach and removed all the chairs because people couldn't get past. So maybe that's why they don't have them here and other beaches we've been to. The beaches do look nice though without the obstruction of chairs and we're getting quite used to laying on our mat now. That being said we did get free deck chairs and umbrella at the blue moon bar. It was quite handy that a girl from the hotel told us if you buy a drink there you can just stay on the chair all day and no one bothers you. Doesn't make much sense to me but that's how it is. So for the price of o a soda and small Chang it's a bargain!
My legs had started to resemble sand paper (yuk) so I grabbed a few handfuls of wet sand before going into the sea and rubbed it in. Worked a treat and I massaged with some coconut oil I bought in Cambodia and they're almost like a baby's bottom now (baby elephant maybe)!
We booked our speed boat tickets for tomorrow for Phi Phi Island and will get picked up at hotel at 11. Thought this was the boat Ian said to use but now I don't think so but already booked before he made a comment on FB about sharing. So think theirs was private and this one has 60 passengers but will be better than our previous crossing!! It was 600 bht £12 each with pick up. It's best to check rates for trips and boats if it's not too much trouble ad rates can vary from one agent to another. Our hotel quoted twice the price.
Lazed about this evening. Strolled to our sunset cocktail bar for the last time then walked back and had a meal in our hotel. It was quite lively there so all good.
Had another lovely day beach was beautiful and the sea devine.
Aghhhh! Then I had to redo the last 3 days of blog so, sorry if it's not very informative as I usually try to write a bit as I go but trying to remember what's happened when I don't even know what day it is...!!??
We've really enjoyed our stay here and can't believe we have less than 2 weeks left so we're going to make the most of it
Phi Phi island tomorrow

Rita Well been writing to you for ages and sorry it seems to have disappeared. Late for work ........gone 8am so enjoy your last week. Xx
sue Sounds lovely, I think I'd need to know what was nipping me in the water though. Critters...shudder.
Linda and Ken I suppose this means we won't be swimming at Formby now. The beaches sound fantastic, but beware the vampire swimming sand flies, I believe they love people who drink cocktails. It all sounds really great, keep enjoying yourselves.
rita Yes it seems you are trying a wide range of different places with different standards and prices which helps when you are choosing your next holiday. Luxury or basic no doubt a lot to be said for both. You seem to you have got the mix right. You have covered nearly all the places known to most people so you have both done well. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when you had the occasional hiccup ha ha...........did you do James Bond island? The weather here will take a little while before you can go off in your tent. However Annette and Colin were away in their Dandy at the weekend. Unfortunately snow stopped play. But they are already planning their next trip. So maybe a Dandy could be the answer to you extending your camping season. There are lots of snowdrops so lovely and delicate which are certainly a good sign of spring. Well it's almost 8am and I am late again. Enjoy your last week it will fly. This has popped up. Typed it this morning and it disappeared so sending now. Xxx fingers crossed xx
Lisa Hi, just caught up on last 5 installments of the blog. Unfortunately, left my glasses in work today, so just about made it! Sounds like you've had a ball; looking forward to seeing some photos. See you soon, Lisa x
Hi Rita from Jean hi rita. No Wr didn't do James Bond Island. I was thinking that was the one where you got stuck in the cave so thought I'd better give it a miss.
Lisa from Jean Glasses Lisa? I didn't know you wore glasses!!
Linda + Ken from Jean haha Linda and Ken. Can't remember ever swimming at Formby to be honest. Maybe if I have a few extra cocktails I won't feel the vampire swimming sandflies! We've done quite well not getting bitten I think. We've had a few but not too bad and we've been on the beach in the evening a fair bi. Mind you Sam is using 100% deet!! I was at the start but came out in a rash. Don't know if it wad the paintstripper oh sorry, deet but I stopped using it and use the citronella now.
