Finally we found a use for B's walking sandals. He's had them for some time but they've become a bit antisocial. They're fine when attached to the feet but when removed warm they'd stun a rhinoceros. Whenever we visit a shrine shoes have to be removed and a discussion usually takes place as to the safest place to deposit them.
Today, visiting the royal palace and pagoda, there were lots of tightly huddled tour groups and no such discussion took place. So the sandals were placed directly upwind of the temple. Remarkably the hordes dispersed and we had the place virtually to ourselves. J is sceptical as to cause and effect but B is convinced and will use the technique again.
Predictably there were no royals in the palace and the silver pagoda was gold - but hey, it was a great morning.
Taxi arrived on time and it took a record 2hrs30 to drive here. He drove carefully, missing numerous cows, a dog and a child, in that order
The hotel lives up to it's Lonely Planet description as 'faded French opulence' and seems great despite the dogged determination of the receptionist to flog us as many tours as possible at prices way higher than we can get 100 yards down the road. Disappointed pouts have no effect on us. We've seen a few!
