morning. I think. The sun is shining so it must be a good morning. got to have a wisdom tooth out tomorrow so I won't be clever any more. bye for now! x x
work is ok, just had a meeting with ros davies and steve malec - ros heavily pregnant - climbing last night at meadfoot quarrey, 1 VD and 1 S, you've done them - nest egg and the one next to it except I took a new line between the two, quite exciting with minimal protection and a rucksack climbing out in the dark/dusk - first time climbing for about 4 months so had to get head round it but nice to have a controllable mini epic again just like old times - trying to plan a week to the alps in the autumn, need to see jim but he's still in italy - dai might make it, going to meet dai in lakes in 2 weekends time, camp at base and do a big trad route, drink whisky on top - still haven't grown out of it - where does the time go eh?
speak to you soon

Hi there Lawrence, great to hear from you. Hope the job is going well. Sounds like you are still down with the Bantham massive. Watch out for that rip. Will be good to go surfing as well as climbing when i get back. A gecko has just run across the wall as i type. Spain sounds great and i will definitely look forward to some trips to explore new climbing routes. Winter and Spring will be great to get down there and have some fun. Hanoi is hot as hell and we are struggling to move. Permanently drenched in perspiration. Its a great place though with a real crazy city atmosphere. Went to a marine national park called Halong Bay which has over 3000 karst limestone islands jutting out of the sea. Have looked into hiring boats equiped with kayaks for a major climbing holiday. Can live on a boat for a few days and climb above warm sea water all day. How does that sound? Anyway, heading south tomorrow, subject to us getting our laundry back from a street vendor. Drinking too much larger but you just have to out here. It just leaves me to say the obligatory "Hanoi Rocks" with an 80s big hair, soft metal type vibe. If you have an email address text it to us and we will be in touch. Seeya soon.

hey pete & janet, can't believe your in vietnam already, just been speaking to helen B at county hall and she remembered that she was going to send you some stuff on what to do, sounds like you've already done it - south devon life is gripping as always - sunny but cold but the seas warming up - approx 10-11 C!!, still need a hat but at Polzeath on Saturday was the only one wearing them, thinking I need a bigger board, but will decide if going to do it seriuosly before that investment - just started to use the rip at bantham and going out back, this was a bit of a breakthough and better than being hammered in the soup, its not easy is it? pete you can teach me when you return. climbing, what's that, 've missed it as well, just hasn't happened but will be meeting Dai in lake district/north york moors for long weekend soon, he's been doing some in scotland, going tomorrow night with rosie and tim, probably go to everyones favorite beginner crag - sheepstor (or sunny meadfoot quarrey with obligatory tombstone plunge). Cycling a little, a friend is going to rebraze my very expensive rear carrier to lower the centre of gravity, hope this works without making a very strong piece of gear very brittle, also lowering the gearing, south devon is the hardest place in the world for bikes for sure - valerie sends her regards, she been teaching me spanish in exchange for dinner every tuesday - winter climbing trips sorted out now for evermore - fly to malaga, collected by my sister and explore the climbed and unclimbed crags of Axarquia - managed to get a day off from building ill fitting ikea kitchens at la casa de mi hermana and walked for 10 hours up La Maroma, 2065 m - a wonderful and quiet upland limestone massif, you can see Gibraltar from it (I did'nt, was snowing) and all around were crags that must be explored - found some evidence - bolts, tat etc but loads of trad natural lines/ridges/mountaineering - so this is why we need the language (and to drink cold cerverza & warm vino) - time to do some work, off to Newton Ferrers - hasta luego Lawrence

Wow it sounds as if things are good again. Its wierd to think that was your no. 1 country to visit Janet? Jon and Sue L went there on their honeymoon and loved every minute but I think it was for about 3 weeks or so. Maybe a quick snap shot type trip is the best way to see it as you guys did. Those steps do look bloody steep and I know how cameras change the gradient from our ski photos! Things here are as hectic as always-last week of year eleven and twelve but then they come back in again for some revision lessons so even more to plan! Probably spend all that time and none turn up! We all had a juicy union meeting the other day led by Al and the topics have left us all debating various issues for hours at high volume! Things with us are fab. Getting away each weekend at the mo surfing. We are just leaving the van permenantly packed! Polzeath last weekend and Tintagel this. Off to the Daphe De Maurier festival for abit of culture next weekend (Ok maybe its the free bands playing!) and planning a trip around cornwall/devon at half term from sennen up to Croyde stopping at any sites on the beach next to good surf spots. Our record is 6 surfs over the bank hol - we are really getting into it and feel we are slowly improving. Cant wait till Sept and you guys can come away with us again. Better sign off now as going to see how Tonks is doing. Big squeezy hugs x
