JB & PG's Big Adventure
Hong Kong is mad. Officially. It is near impossible to walk down the streets due to the sheer number of people and the noise is constant day and night. That said, it is a vibrant city with lots to do and we've done a lot. We came here mainly to sort our visas for China and Vietnam, both of which we require for longer than you can arrange from outside China. However we have managed to go up the world's steepest tram way - and my god was it steep! We were literally forced back into our chairs. We have seen the world's biggest sitting Buddha - can confirm it is indeed very big; we have enjoyed the grandiose Afternoon Tea at the Peninsula Hotel (twice at Pete's request - shock!!) and seen amazing views out over Hong Kong at night (see picture above), including the light show from the Avenue of Stars, where we found that Pete has slightly shorter middle fingers but much larger palms than Jackie Chan - it's true, you do indeed learn something new every day! We have enjoyed romantic ferry cruises, walked through the Hong Kong Park aviary in the rain, watched old men and women practising martial arts complete with long shiny swords, seen miniature speed boats whizzing around the pond at Victoria Park, eaten various dumplings and wantons for dim sum and had some truly gorgeous Chinese, Malaysian and Japanese meals. All in all, a good time had by all. Pete is already talking about having Afternoon Tea again the next time he comes to HK. Me? I'm talking about the amount of clothes shopping I plan to do when not on a budget! First, as Brett so tactfully suggests, I've got to do something about this Buddha butt that I am successfully cultivating! Happy Easter everybody!!
