Our train for Edinburgh didn't leave until around 7 pm, so we pretty much had the whole day to explore York more. After looking through some more shops, we stopped by the York Art Gallery which was tiny in comparison to the ones we saw in London. We ate a quick lunch in the square outside and then headed to the train station to pick up our tickets. Inside they had a little restaurant selling Cornish pasties which we had to try. They're a flaky pastry filled with any number of things (usually meats) which makes it very convenient, not to mention delicious. We went next door to the National Railway Museum and spent some time looking at the trains. It was fitting as we were about to get on one ourselves! We took a last stroll along the river and then headed back to our hostel to grab our packs. We wanted to make it to an evensong service at York Minster before we left, so we headed in what we thought was the right direction and got very lost before managing to make it to the church right as the service was starting. The church is breathtaking on the inside, especially the east window, which takes up the whole wall with a masterpiece of stained glass. From there, it was right to the station again to catch our train. We said goodbye to York and were soon on our way to Scotland! The ride was under 3 hours so I sat and watched the countryside fly by the entire time. We even caught a brief glimpse of the North Sea! We arrived in Edinburgh around 10 pm and even at night the city looks incredible. I can't wait to see more of it tomorrow!
