The late night caused me to almost miss my train from Prague and just when I thought things were fine and dandy, I hear that DB (the German national railway company) workers are on strike. When we got to the border of Germany and the Czech Republic everyone had to get off at this little town and take a bus to a station in Germany to catch connecting trains. So I got to stand there for an hour waiting for the bus before I finally made it to my first stop. Luckily I met a Swedish guy on the train and passed the time talking to him. From there I had to catch 3 different trains from various little stations to get to Rothenburg. I arrived about 3 hours later than I had planned and just when I was wondering if this was even worth it, I entered the medieval walled part of the city. I must say, I fell in love at first sight. Rothenburg is the most picturesque little town with every house and shop more charming than the last. Normally when I first get to a new city there's an initial frustration about trying to find my hostel, but here I didn't have a care in the world. I wandered around in a state of awe until I accidentally stumbled upon my hostel. I dropped off my things and set off into the town again. After eating dinner at the first restaurant I saw (Chinese, my favorite!) I walked to the town center. Unfortunately it was already around 9 pm so nothing was open besides a couple cafes and shops selling ice cream. I bought a cone and walked around until it was dark out and then headed back to the hostel. I met an American named Rob who was staying in my room as well and we made plans to go explore the town tomorrow!
